Trends in CO2 emissions

The Commitment to a Low Carbon Society
Target of FY2020 ‘Reduction of CO2 emission unit by 10% relative to fiscal 1990 result’
(Except cases of PET bottle self-manufacture)

Soft drink industry has participated in Voluntary Action Plan on the Environment under management of Japan Business Federation from a long-term perspective to act on their utmost initiative for energy saving and CO2 emissions reduction - FY1997~2012 in support of the global warming countermeasures. Furthermore, took part in ‘The Commitment to a Low Carbon Society’ in 2013 the year the measure was established and has been engaging in prevention of global warming aiming to achieve the goal of ‘FY2020, Reduction of CO2 emission unit by 10% relative to FY 1990 result’.

※CO2 emission unit …CO2 emitted from per 1kl production output
※PET bottle self-manufacture…Manufacture of bottles by making use of preform the mold of a PET bottle and resin the raw material carried out by the soft drink manufacturer themselves at their own factory. This method can reduce CO2 emission volume in soft drink industry including relating container manufactures and its logistic phases.

FY2017 CO2 Emission Unit Achievement

FY2017 CO2 Emission Unit in soft drink industry turned out to be 91% which marked 9% reduction from fiscal 1990. The achievement could not be made without the firm efforts on energy saving measures for instance, changes in fuel with less CO2 emission and anaerobic treatment for wastewater. Our industry will continue to engage in the efforts on CO2 emission reduction to seek the realization of a low carbon society.
